November 2025
Thanksgiving leads to peace.
If your main experience with Scripture Union is at our camps and events, it's easy to think that the Summer is our "busy" season. You may even have wondered what we even get up to for the rest of the year!
But just like many of you, this season comes with a flurry of activity. To-do's lists get longer, calendars fill up and it feels like everything needs to get done before teams break for Christmas.
In all this busyness and urgency, we’re often left feeling anxious and empty. Peace can start to feel like something waiting for us on the other side of completed tasks, as if there isn't space for it in the noise of our day-to-day.
Isaiah 26:3: You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.
The prophet Isaiah offers a reminder here that trusting in God, fixing our minds on God's consistent presence and goodness in our lives, brings peace. There is a correlation between our ability to recognise the goodness of God in our lives and our capacity to experience the peace of God.
As we move through this season of Thanksgiving and into Advent, it is a wonderful time to pause and pay attention to the ways God shows his goodness in your life - a home that keeps you warm, food on the table, people who check in on you, friends to laugh with, work that gives purpose, moments of rest, a cheesy Christmas movie (even if it is November).
Peace isn’t a magical feeling that we receive when we have all of our ducks in a row. It grows as we grow in gratitude and awareness of God’s goodness - when we’re reminded that God is with us.
Blessings,
Mark Murray
