Hello from SU National Leader
In 2024, Scripture Union (SU) Ireland continued our mission to connect, support, and equip individuals in their faith journeys. We did this through camps, schools, events, partnerships, resources and more. Scripture Union Ireland is a small team but this has not prevented us having global impact through our resources and supporting other movements globally with knowledge, expertise and a shared desire to see God’s kingdom come.
Youth Development and Camps
The Youth Development Team, led by Mark Murray, played a pivotal role in organising camps and retreats at Ovoca Manor, SU's retreat centre in Co. Wicklow. These events provided safe and nurturing environments for young people to explore faith, build friendships, and develop leadership skills. The camps were well-received, with increased participation reflecting their positive impact on attendees.
Resource Development
The Resources Ministry, under Sharon Lynch's leadership, expanded its offerings to support teachers and students. Notably, the NUA Film Series, an innovative resource addressing tough questions of faith, continued to gain traction both in Ireland and internationally. Additionally, the TIMELANDERS series for primary-level students and SHINE FILMS for secondary-level students were developed to provide engaging content that encourages meaningful discussions about faith.
Volunteer Engagement
Volunteers remained integral to SU Ireland's operations, contributing to various programs and initiatives. The organisation emphasised volunteer training and support, ensuring that volunteers were well-equipped to effectively engage with participants and facilitate programs.
Governance and Leadership
Under the guidance of National Leader Gareth Lynch and Chairperson Alison Gill, SU Ireland maintained a strong governance structure. Their leadership ensured the organisation's activities aligned with its mission and responded to the evolving needs of the communities it serves.
Overall, 2024 was a year of growth and impactful ministry for Scripture Union Ireland, marked by successful camps, the development of engaging resources, and the unwavering commitment of its volunteers and leadership team.
An Update from Gareth & Sharon Lynch
Dear Friends and Supporters of Scripture Union Ireland, After a season of seeking the Lord’s guidance, we believe it’s time for us to step down from our roles with Scripture Union Ireland. It has been a tremendous privilege to serve SU in various capacities, and while this marks a significant transition, we are hopeful and grateful for what lies ahead—for us personally and for the future of SU Ireland.
