The three aims of the Primary Schools work are as follows:
- To provide innovative Bible-Based RE resources.
- To encourage and empower children to develop a personal faith.
- To work in partnership with primary schools and parishes throughout the Republic of Ireland.
We have also been developing some seasonal programmes to complement this work, and we of course continue to run our primary school-focused Adventure Camps (3rd class and up) and our day-camps in the border areas of Ireland, and in Greystones, Co. Wicklow (from school-going age and up).
Its Your Move: An Irish resource for sixth class students preparing for secondary school.
‘It’s Your Move’ (IYM) is a faith based transition resource for students moving to secondary school. Made up of four one hour lessons IYM is an excellent tool for any school or parish to use in preparing their young people for secondary school. Each lesson has games, activities and Bible stories to get young people talking about the next big move in their lives. At the centre of this resource is the assurance that God is with us always and the reminder for young people that they are not alone during this big move into secondary school. IYM is made up of four interactive lessons including a reflective art project. The resource is easy to use and applicable to many different contexts. Training is required to use this resource and further details can be provided by SU's Children & Community Manager Claire Devaney. Read IYM Frequently asked Questions
While Scripture Union has been working with children for over 100 years, we have recently been developing a Primary Schools Resource specifically for children in Ireland making that transitionary step from Primary to Secondary School. Developed in consultation with teachers, parish workers, parents and children, this programme is now being made available to a wider audience.
